One of the most important aspects
of your Park District's web site is updating and maintaining
it! We offer a wide variety of services in this area to
ensure your web site is always fresh and up-to-date so
your customers will return again and again.
Sometimes the simplest way to keep your web site up to date is to arrange a
maintenance agreement where you submit your changes on a regular basis and
we make all the updates for you. We offer our maintenance services in blocks
of time or on demand as you need them.
In order to gain more control over your web site, without becoming an HTML
expert, you may wish to consider a Content Management System (CMS). A CMS will
allow you to make changes to the web site using a simple web interface while
preserving the overall web design, file structure, etc.
While there are a wide range of CMS options available, one
of the simplest and most economical is a relatively new product
from Macromedia called Contribute. Currently in its third
version, Contribute is easy to set up and learn to use. It
can provide powerful web editing features that satisfy the
needs of most Park Districts at an affordable price. We can
help you procure, install and learn to use Contribute with
our on-site training sessions.
In addition we offer our own CMS solutions and can also
help you with 3rd-party solutions from companies like Ektron
and Microsoft. Upon review of your unique situation we can
recommend an appropriate CMS as well as assist you with deployment
and training.
If you need more control than CMS provides and you have adequate staff to dedicate
to your web maintenance and updating you can equip them with state-of-the-art
commercial web design tools and training. The main tools needed are an HTML
editor, image editing software and an FTP application.
This option can be highly effective if you are willing to
make the investment in the required tools and the training
necessary to learn to use them. Web design and production,
while relatively easy get started in, can be quite difficult
to master. The web designer must be aware of the way people
use the web, what browsers they use, their type of computers
and a myriad of other factors and consider all of these when
designing and implementing the web site. And, the professional
designer has the benefit of doing this day-in and day-out
alongside other designers so they are always at the cutting
edge of the web, understanding its possibilities and limitations.
We can help you with strategy and planning and we can help
with procurement of tools and training on their best use
in maintaining your web site. After an initial meeting to
discuss your goals, we can help you lay out your plan of
attack!
